FLASHLIGHT ON THE ARTS 12-20-92
running time: 5:00

And now, it's time for "Flashlight on the Arts", our regular look at arts events you wouldn't care about unless you were a fan of this show sand maybe not even then. "Flashlight on the Arts" is brought to you by Old World Brand Borscht Pellets: just drop 'em in any hot, non-flammable liquid and have passable borscht in seconds! And now, "Flashlight on the Arts".
In music, there will be a concert featuring the poetry of Richard Simmons set to the music of Mannhein Steamroller and sung by Leo Buscaglia, Thursday at Nellie's New Age Nook in Nerstrand. Buscaglia and Simmons will also conduct workshops in hugging and misty-eyed self-divulgence. Also in music, there will be a concert of guys who put one hand to their ear, make faces and sing too high, on the infield of the Brainerd International Raceway Sunday afternoon. Featured will be Don Henley, Joe Cocker and Michael Bolton. Please use the infield tunnels instead of walking on the track, as there will be a race going on.
In the textile arts, a traveling exhibit of fabric art pieces and wall hangings created by actor/director Clint Eastwood will open Friday at the Knights of the Holy Rosary Hall in Deephaven. The exhibit, entitled "Go Ahead, Macrame", will run through Sunday. You get half off the admission price if you turn in a handgun in any condition. Also in the textile arts--hmm, that's funny: we've never featured the textile arts before, and here we have two entries!--kinetic textile artist Gordon "Pop" Wagner [aside to Pop: What's this all about?-type thing] will attempt to break the Mr. String knot-tying record Tuesday night at the Metrodome. [extemporaneous Mr. String Demonstration]
In dance, opening Friday is "Oops, I Stepped in a Poodle", a mirthful look at pet accidents presented by the Mixed Breed Dance Company. The Mixed Breed Dance Company is one of very few dance companies that feature animals and humans dancing on stage simultaneously. They're not the first to do this, but they may be the last. Performances are this weekend at the Daughters of Cleopatra Temple in Ham Lake.
In literature, famous songsters Peter, Paul and Mary will recite the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius in unison in Spanish, Thursday night at the Little Madrid House of Roman Classics in Soderville. This is in conjunction with Soderville's two-month long Spanish Salute to the Classics. Also in literature, there will be a reading of the poetry of Gene Roddenberry and William Shatner Friday Night at Stanley's Star Trek Supermarket in Hugo. Leonard Nimoy's children will be reading. You know, Pop, very few people know this, but the first six episodes of Star Trek were originally written in iambic pentameter.
And that's "Flashlight on the Arts", brought to you by Old World Borscht Pellets: They make a hot borscht-like substance in seconds: it doesn't taste as good as grandma's, but would you really want it to?
