FLASHLIGHT ON THE ARTS--11/22/92

And now, it's time for "Flashlight on the Arts", our regular look at ignored, forgotten and forlorn arts events in the metro area. "Flashlight on the Arts" is brought to you by a new sponsor: Buck the Baby-Namer. If you and your spouse can't agree on what to name your incoming bundle of joy, submit it to neutral arbitration: Let Buck the Baby-Namer name your baby. This week only, middle names are free, and if you're having twins, the second name is half-price. And remember, you pay nothing until the christening. And now, "Flashlight on the Arts".
In music, the St. Paul Police Woodwind Ensemble and Rifle Team will present a concert of traditional law enforcement folk songs. The concert, entitled "Flat Foot Folk Fest", is Wednesday at noon in the Precinct Seven Equipment Room. The St. Paul Police Woodwind Ensemble and Rifle Team Auxiliary Dance Line will also be there doing improvisational interpretations of the music. They'll be wearing tube tops and stretch pants, so please leave the kids at home.
In literature, there will be a benefit auction to help out the beleaguered Soderville Romance Poets Study Group, who, as you probably know, are in danger of losing their location in the Soderville Semi-Mall to a drop-in pet-care center. The auction will include the desk upon which local poet Michael Patrick Dworp wrote his unrecognized masterpiece, "Leaves of the Phone Book". The auction is Wednesday at the Soderville Semi-Mall; Colonel Pop Wagner will be the auctioneer.
Speaking of auctions, in the studio arts, there will be an auction of the works of noted fish painter Sybil Tongue--[ADAM INTERRUPTS] Proceeds will go to cover medical expenses for Miss Tongue's pet blowfish Jody, who suffers from Nervous Fin Syndrome. So come to the auction, bid generously and, if you're lucky, when you leave, you can keep a Sybil Tongue. Handling the auctioneering duties will be Colonel Pop Wagner.
And finally, in dance, modern tap duo Four Fleet Feet will present a dance program celebrating the most recent inductees into the Tap Dance Hall of Fame. The concert, entitled "Admitting Defeat", will be Tuesday at Moe's Taps and Tights for Tiny Tots in Dellwood. Bring a pound or more of old dance taps and get fifty cents off the price of admission. No tape recorders, please.
And that's "Flashlight on the Arts", brought to you by Buck the Baby-Namer. Can't decide? Afraid of being ridiculed? Or maybe you're just too darned busy. Well, give Buck a call. And remember, all next month is Buck's Bible Bonanza--all Biblical names are two-for-one.
"Having a baby? You're in luck! Pick up the phone and call old Buck."
Buck the Baby-Namer: he's in the Yellow Pages under "Baby-Namers".
